About Us

Bryan and Rachel ShortOur Philosophy

We are Rachel and Bryan Short and we own and operate The Sewing Loft of Avon.  We approach all of our projects with the impassioned belief that every client is our most important client.  Whether we’re doing thirteen Roman shades for a large game room or a small seat cushion for a chair in a home office, every client is entrusting us with something that is near and dear to their hearts and to which they have a huge emotional attachment.

We realize that the process of creating a comfortable home environment which reflects our client’s personality is an emotional journey and should not be taken lightly or as “just another job.”  We put my heart and soul into every project, because the final product is not merely a reflection of our work but is also a personal expression of the client’s vision of their most important possession: their home.

Perfect Custom Products

If our clients are searching for decorative ideas, next to sewing, we really enjoy helping clients find the perfect custom products for their home.  We have great reference books to inspire the creative imagination and we use computerized design software that helps our clients visualize the finished project prior to making a final decision.   We also provide exceptional customer service.

We are here every step of the way to answer your questions, and your phone call will always reach one of the owners. We work directly with you to find the design, fabric and style that are just right for your project. You have a vision for each room of your dream home; The Sewing Loft of Avon has the tools and experience to make that vision a warm and inviting reality!

How It All Started

I’ve been sewing regularly for friends and family for the past 18 years but my love for sewing began in my 6th grade home economics class where I sewed my first project.  The project was a pillow in the shape of a football and should have had six rows of laces across the top.  However, I thought it would be more creative and fun for it to have eight rows of laces.  Although the teacher had not purchased enough grommets and material, she eventually agreed to purchased additional materials to match my creative inspiration and my dream of an eight laced football pillow was realized!  Ever since then I have always loved the idea of taking a plain rectangle or square of fabric and transforming it into something with dimension and beauty.
